Drawing and Composition Class

SUPPLIES LIST

For class beginning April 2017

I am thrilled to begin a new session with you all! The potential I saw in the last class was stunning, and I am excited to see what we can do together over the next few weeks.

Please show this youtube video to your child and have them experiment drawing fruit with two pencils the way the instructor does. I would love for them to bring their results to the first class.

Bring first week:

  • 9x12 sketchbook. Many of you may have one already from the previous class. If you need a new one, follow this link (this one is a suggestion, not required!).
  • Fruit drawing (see above)

Bring preceding weeks:

  • 9x12 sketchbook
  • 2B pencil
  • eraser

I like watching Amazon deals for specials on art supplies and will share them sometimes with you. I just ordered this fun charcoal and pencil set today for Evi and myself. Art supply sales make a frugal artist heart happy!

Individual Art Instruction - supplies list

I know buying the initial supplies can be a shock. You are welcome to price shop and to choose cheaper or more expensive brands at your discretion. The Amazon links posted on the right are suggestions and not required.

SUPPLY LIST

  • Oil colors: I strongly suggest starting with good brand paints. The fine buttery texture makes the experience substantially more enjoyable. My favorite brand is Gamblin. There are many other good brands. Windsor Newton Artisan Colors (not their Winton brand) are very good too and are easy to find locally.

Alizarin Crimson
Cadmium Red Light
Cadmium Yellow Light
Viridium
Ultramarine Blue
Yellow Ochre
Burnt Umber
Titanium White

Or purchase this Gamblin Artist OIl Introductory Set at Amazon.

  • Turpenoid (thinner) - suggested 8 oz. and an empty jar with a lid to transfer some into.
  • Brushes - bristle brushes for oil painting (pack of 4 or more filberts or flats, various sizes). Brushes are tricky. I don't suggest going super expensive on a first set of brushes, but the cheapest brushes are going to become unusable quite fast. Try to find a middle of the road set to begin with, such as here or here.
  • 11x14 or 8x10 canvases
  • 2B Pencil and pad of paper for sketching and making notes.
  • Plastic palette

Please let me know any questions that you might have!

God bless.
